The Gaia School of Healing
& Earth Education

Honoring 18 years!

Over 70 rounds of plant medicine apprenticeships, thousands of students have journeyed with us into the sacred.

The Gaia School of Healing & Earth Education founded in 2001 by Sage L. Maurer offers courses and workshops in sacred plant medicine over the last 18 years in New England, and now in California. We offer 9 month long apprenticeships in folk herbalism, plant spirit medicine, holistic healing, spiritual ecology, and earth ceremony. Join us as we remember together the wisdom of our ancestors, and journey with the healing spirits of the plants.

Courses in Vermont & California

Our courses weave together folk plant medicine, holistic healing, ethnobotany, permaculture, local ecology, earth-centered ceremony, growing and harvesting medicinals, wildcrafting, plant communication, and meditation. Courses run throughout the year in Southern Vermont and in Southern California. Our courses fill quickly, so check out what we are currently offering!

Join us as we come together for another year of walking the medicine path.

Deepening our relationship to the spirits of the earth and the healing plants that surround us.

We seek the medicine Earth Mother has placed in our hands since the beginning. Our most ancient medicine. The plants teach us to understand our bodies as living breathing ecosystems, transforming and changing every moment. Moving with the stars, the seasons, the sun and moon, the flow of tides, and the shifts happening on earth. The plants come into our rivers of blood and fluid, sending their energy and power to every cell. Their chemicals dance with ours, soothing our nerves, illuminating our mind, and nourishing our body.

The Plant Medicine Sutra

Thus I have heard. That night the bodhisattva awoke and found herself surrounded by vines, branches, flowers, roots, sap, essence of the plant world, and the wildness of nature, all supplicating her for a teaching... The bodhisattva spoke: It is you, not I who needs to speak; it is you, it is your voice that is needed to awaken the self-centered human species to the vast web of life and love and awareness that is the intimate birthright of us all. Your sap, your juices, your fibers, your chemistry. We ask that all of you speak through and to our species, blood and bone, in a language that is unmistakable, unfettered by the intellect we have come to value so highly.

Speak to us of our interconnectedness, teach us how to hold each other in love, teach us how to experience our own primal essence, true nature, teach us how to know the essence of each sentient being, trees, grasses, rocks, mountains, stars, clouds, aminals, insects, spirits, other realms of existence. We have lost our connection and wander here and there without center, unaware of the web that you sustain... Teach us how to enter the stream, the stream of vows, the stream of wishes, the stream of the hearts and minds of our ancestors... We bow before you and ask your blessings.

In Devotion to Gaia

" Gaia existed before everything; she existed before time. Gaia, the eternal, prehistoric earth mother goddess, is fertility incarnate, moist, mysterious, strong. She is life energy itself; everything that lives, breathing or not, overflows with her life. She is the earth and all the powers of the earth. Gaia is not always a consoling goddess: standing for life and generation without thought of consequence, she has an energy and a power that must be approached carefully. All bodies eventually return to her, into the black, fertile earth, to be devoured and to receive her life to live again. As goddess of the soul, Gaia reminds us that the soul develops in dark places and that ultimately soul must be rooted in body, in earth. She is a reminder that we must ground ourselves in the reality of nature…" - M. Babcock
