Let your creative self play in the realms of the plants
Enjoy an inspiring dive into the world of botanical art. Each class, we explore botanical art from around the world, drawing inspiration from the many ways artists have captured the beauty and spirit of plants. Together — and between classes — we’ll create images of plants we love, working in styles that range from abstract and expressive to detailed and illustrative.
We will draw and paint from live plants as well as from photographs, dreams, journeys, and meditations with the plants themselves. Throughout the course, we’ll explore a variety of mediums, including pen and ink, watercolor, charcoal, pencil, and acrylic paint. No previous experience is necessary. Sage will guide students through both beginning and more advanced drawing and painting techniques.
Have you always loved old botanical drawings? In this brand new class, we’ll dive into the magick realms of botanical art. Drawing from over 30 years of experience, Sage will share techniques that encourage freedom, looseness, and joy in creative expression. We will draw and paint outside in the garden with the plants, share our sketches, create finished works, and gently release inner creative blocks rooted in self-judgment or fear.
Drawing is one of the best ways to spend time with plants in the wild! It deepens appreciation, draws attention to details our eyes often miss, and helps immensely with plant identification. Together, we will fill a sketchbook with loose drawings from the garden, create detailed works, explore paint, color, abstraction, mark-making, and various materials, while also touching on the history of botanical art.
